about

About 1 pm on Sunday, November 30, 2014, I recorded a new piece of improvised music on the keyboard. 1 take. No dubs. 13 and a half minutes long. Recorded live, in stereo and in my living room. Over and out. The song is done. That's part 1. Part 2 is simply part 1 reversed.

Coincidentally (?), the music is based on a photo that I took that's one of my first attempts at "art photography". That's the photo used for the artwork here and both the song and the photo are called "Licorice To Heaven...Or Man's Desire To Reach God...And Beat Him.".

The music is made to listen to while looking at the photo.

I'm dedicating this song to my friend, Craig Lieske, who always encouraged me to get back to musical improvisation and experimentalism in addition to the things that I usually do.

Cover art by Chris McKay. Photo taken on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California in the spring of 2013.
