Well, you know that you can be a racist And maybe no one will know And you can be a sexist and homophobe If you know how to not let it show Yeah, you can claim to be a Christian And you can claim to be pro-life But if you don't wear a mask We know that you're a fucking liar Chorus: Well, if you don't wear a mask You're showing what an ass you are Yeah, if you don't wear a mask You're showing what an ass you are If you don't care enough about others To think of the lives you could save Well, I won't forget to put roses on your grave Well, I was raised to believe that everyone Deserves a fighting chance And I was raised to believe that everyone Should help everyone they can But if you think that you're above it And you refuse to understand Well, you might be a lot of things But you're damn sure not a man Chorus: Well, if you don't wear a mask You're showing what an ass you are Yeah, if you don't wear a mask You're showing what an ass you are If you don't care enough about others To think of the lives you could save Well, I won't forget to put roses on your grave You've got to do the right thing You've got to do the right thing You've got to do the right thing You've got to do the right thing You've got to do the right thing You've got to do the right thing You've got to do the right thing You've got to do the right thing Chorus: 'Cause if you don't wear a mask You're showing what an ass you are Yeah, if you don't wear a mask You're showing what an ass you are If you don't care enough about others To think of the lives you could save Well, I won't forget to put roses on your grave No, I won't forget to put roses on your grave No, I won't forget to put roses on your grave

SORRY STATE (Music and lyrics by Michael Wegner) We don't want to be angry We don't want them to see us here Let's beat 'em down in the cities and the towns Let 'em fight the fight Let 'em place the crown on the next of kin Let's clean the slate for the next debate Let the "colored people" demonstrate What a state we're in Things are turning on a dime And we're nervous all the time We're the victim and the crime Never mind Let's raise our glass to the dirty past And the penitence of the Democrats It's a sorry state Let's build a wall for the Mexicans Shame, shame on the Republicans Such a story state We don't want to be angry You don't want us to lose control The talking heads keep slamming the door While the raven screams out "Nevermore" All the bets are in. And the junkmen selling feet of clay They want to slow us down They want to make us pay for our suffering Things are turning on a dime And we're nervous all the time We're the victim and the crime Never mind Let's raise our glass to the dirty past And the penitence of the Democrats It's a sorry state Let's build a wall for the Mexicans Shame, shame on the Republicans Such a story state I don't wanna vote. Do I have to vote? I don't wanna think. Do I have to think? I don't wanna know. Do I have to know? I don't wanna pay. Do I have to pay? I don't wanna fight. Do I have to fight? I don't wanna believe, but I've got to believe! Things are turning on a dime And we're nervous all the time We're the victim and the crime Never mind Let's raise our glass to the dirty past And the penitence of the Democrats It's a sorry state Let's build a wall for the Mexicans Shame, shame on the Republicans Such a story state Let's sell our souls to the undertow Let the immigrants be the first to go Such a sorry state Let's trade our class for a piece of ass Let the end times come to pass It's such a sorry state

Chris: Americans are dying and you're selling us beans! What's that got to do with America? You can't defend the Constitution If you don't know what it means. What's that got to do with America? What's that got to do with you and me? We're crying out for justice And you're telling us lies. What's that got to do with America? But we won't just stand here as our democracy dies. What's that got to do with America? What's that got to do with you and me? Well, I guess we're gonna see. Elite: Never been the one to play the fool. Never been a sucker. Never played monkey see, monkey do. But look at you, doing what you do, Hoochie coo. Front page news. Nation’s ridicule. Push and divide individuals. Its pitiful. No cross communication. Like we livin’ in a cubicle. The time is critical. The moment’s pivotal. So if you bring the flames, I’ll bring the fuel. What we gotta do to move all confusion And free us from the shackles of institutions? We catch a Bruisin’. Work us like mules. Miss America don’t be so cruel. I got a fist full of fight, mouthful of truth. We can let the dream die or be living proof. That’s real talk. I call it TrillSpit. Keep it one hundred, that’s as real as it gets! Chris: And when the riderless horse walks We'll be following its steps But we won't be mourning you We're making sure that you're dead Then we'll dance. Oh, we'll dance Yes, we'll dance. Yeah, we'll dance all through the night. We're gonna dance. Yes, we'll dance. Oh, we'll dance. Yeah, the world is gonna see. What's that got to do with America? What's that got to do with America? What's that got to do with America? What's that got to do with America? What's that got to do with America? What's that got to do with America? What's that got to do with America? Only everything. What's that got to do with America? Wait and see. What's that got to do with America? Wait and see. What's that got to do with America? Wait and see. What's that got to do with America? Wait and see. What's that got to do with America? Wait and see. What's that got to do with America? Wait and see.

You’re so carried away that all that we can hear you say Is ‘You must love the state. Oh, you must love the state’
For all those who have died to protect your one right Your right to love the state Oh, you’re right to love the state As you watch all the screens That feed you all your dreams Showing how the other side is gonna get you And their new ideas will just let you die with your kind
All that talk is meant to frighten They don’t mean to enlighten Showing you film of what’s already here Amplifying all your fears to their peak until you speak But you’re so carried away,
all that we can hear you say Is ‘you must love the state. You must love the state
God will smile down on you And He will bless your suffering, too If you always love the state. But you must first love the state
For all of those who have died to protect your one right Your right to love the state Oh, you’re right to love the state’ —
This has played through the ages That same poison still rages Through the veins of all of those who choose to trust All of them who live to just seize your power And call it “ours”

It all comes down to two things Money and the power that it brings
They exploit you and they say your hate is right And if it helps you sleep at night to believe them You won’t leave them You’re so carried away all that we can hear you say Is ‘you must love the state. You must love the state.' God will smile down on you And He will bless your suffering, too If you always love the state. But you must first love the state.
For all of those who have died to protect your one right Your right to love the state Oh, you’re right to love the state Don’t you want to be free
From this madness we see? We can all have a better world to come If we just stand up as one to the liars And their hires
But that door is closing fast Our next chance is our last We can come to the better side of history Or embrace our new freedom as slaves to a state That doesn’t know you And doesn’t care.
Don’t you care? Don’t you care? Don't you care? As you’re carried away to your warm and waiting grave You were known to love the state. You always loved the state
‘Cause your freedom was tied To all those who had lied That you must learn to love the state So you learned to love the state
Did God smile down on you And did He bless your suffering, too Just because you loved the state.
You were trained to love the state
For all of those who had died to protect your one right Your right to love the state Oh, you were right to love the state Were you right to the state? Oh, you always loved the state You were told to love the state You were trained to love the state It's your right to love the state You are right to love the state
 You must love the state
 You must love the state
You must love
You must love
 You must
You must (TAPS)

"Something About Anything" (Written by Michael Wegner) Who's gonna do something about anything? Who's gonna do something about anything? We're comfortable in our selves Safe on the other side of the screen The air is conditioned We take our positions And watch the unraveling scene We've got to get out of our seats We might have to take to the streets Put ourselves on the line 'Cause who's gonna do something about anything? Who's gonna do something about anything? You've got everything to gain. You've got everything to lose. But if you don't make a choice You'll have nothing to choose So who's gonna do something about anything? Some are born to lead Take giant steps in the sand Most of us follow Piggy-back on tomorrow Stumbling ahead with no plan We've got to wake up from this sleep We've got to stop living like sheep When the lion's at hand 'Cause who's gonna do something about anything? Who's gonna do something about anything? You've got everything to gain. We've got everything to lose. But if you don't make a choice You'll have nothing to choose So who's gonna do something about anything? Our leaders are cheating and lying People are dying They're flying too close to the sun Something must be done Well, isn't there anything that will make you do something? Is there anything? Well, isn't there anything that can make you do something? How 'bout anything? Well, when are you gonna get off your ass and do something? How 'bout anything? Yeah, isn't there anything that can make you do something? Isn't there anything? People are dying. People are dying. You've got to do something. You've got to do something. Anything.

They taught you in school about freedom But when you try to be free they never let you They say, "It's easy, nothing to it" And now the ARMY's out to get you Prime time America in terminal stasis The air is so thick It's like drowning in molasses I'm sick and tired of paying these dues And I'm finally getting hip to the American ruse. I learned to say the Pledge Of Allegiance Before they beat me bloody down at the protest They say they're all about that freedom of speech Until you go and stand up for what you believe Prime time America in terminal stasis The air is so thick it's like drowning in molasses I'm sick and tired of paying these dues And I'm sick to my guts of the American ruse Reality stars, OH NO! National Guard, OH NO! Cheap guitars, OH NO! This time they've gone too far! (Rock 'em back, Adam!) Oh, you know the way they pull you over It's suspicious Yeah, for something that just ain't your fault If you complain then they're gonna get vicious They'll kick you in the teeth and charge you with assault But I can see the chickens coming home to roost People everywhere are spreading the news Lots of us working to get rid of these blues 'Cause everybody's sick of the American ruse! Well, well, well - take a look around! Well, well, well - take a look around! Well, well, well - take a look around! Well, well, well - take a look around! Well, well, well - take a look around! (What are you going to do about it?)

So long, you tried You cheated, misleaded, and lied But now it's time to move aside Your time at the wheel has expired Make way for skies anew Chorus: Get out of the way, we are marching on through We're fixing the problems created by you We don't need your answers, your heaven, your hell Get out of the way, farewell Your last hurrah Your privilege has taken you far But now, it ends As we ascend our dignity is on the mend Make way for skies anew Chorus: Get out of the way, we are marching on through We're fixing the problems created by you We don't need your answers, your heaven, your hell Get out of the way, farewell Yeah! Get out of the way, we are marching on through We're fixing the problems created by you We don't need your answers, your heaven, your hell Get out of the way, farewell Get out of the way, we are marching on through We're ending the madness created by you We don't need excuses, your heaven, your hell Get out of the way, farewell, farewell, farewell Goodbye

Seeing the sea recede A foolish man thinks he's beaten the tide So he goes deeper in Shaking his fists with a threat to the sky Then he looks to the shore Calling to those who choose to be fooled "I have defeated the sea, so clearly I am the one to rule". But what he can't really know It's already to late to be saved 'Cause when it all turns around It'll be in the form of a tidal wave We are the sea. Time is the tide. We have the power to make things right. We will not change. We will not stop. The ocean is made of single drops. We are the sea. Time is the tide. We have the power to make things right. We will not change. We will not stop. The ocean is made of single drops. Many followed him in Emboldened, they scrawled their hate in the sand "Our words will stand for all time..." Just as the sea came crashing in And there was nowhere to run No one to blame, no God, and no gun Nothing could stop the wave Until the wave was done We are the sea. Time is the tide. We have the power to make things right. We will not change. We will not stop. The ocean is made of single drops. We are the sea. Time is the tide. We have the power to make things right. We will not change. We will not stop. The ocean is made of single drops. Now, there is no sound Except for waves, and birds, and life The ugliness is gone Taken by the incoming tide And every wave that crashes Reclaims what was always to be And the clock will only go forward into history. We are the sea. Time is the tide. We have the power to make things right. We will not change. We will not stop. The ocean is made of single drops. We are the sea. Time is the tide. We have the power to make things right. We will not change. We will not stop. The ocean is made of single drops...

about

Soundtrack To 2020 is just that.

I've never done an album like this. It's a compilation. It's a concept album. Multiple people helped me produce, record, and master it, almost completely from home, during this weird year.

To me, this album is intended as a sonic diary. Only "Sorry State" and "We Are The Sea" were recorded prior to this year. "Sorry State" was a pre-cursor to where we are and sets us up for how we got here. "We Are The Sea" is a future that will come, if not within months, then within years. It is inevitable.

I've most loved collaborating with friends on these songs and having new adventures. There is something that I've never done prior to this album on nearly every song.

One of the firsts is that these songs are not attempting to be timeless in any way. The hope is for this album to be a time capsule. I don't want it to remain relevant. I want this to be a look back at a dark time that we have overcome.

The album is broken up in sides like a vinyl release in my mind.

Know that going in. It's important. The album is not meant to be heard song by song. Many songs segue from one to the other, and lead and build.

Side one and side two are, basically, parallel universes of our lives. That's all I'll say about it from there, and I'll let the listener take it to their own hearts should they decide to engage.

Side 1:

1. If You Don't Wear A Mask (You're Showing What An Ass You Are)
2. Sorry State
3. What's That Got To Do With America?
4. Love The State

Side 2:

1. Something About Anything
2. The American Ruse (2020)
3. Farewell Old Guard
4. We Are The Sea

Special thanks to everyone who helped me get set up to record from home and advised me on the things I needed. This goes out, especially, to Jason NeSmith, Kevin Sweeney, Adam McIntyre, Lee Flier, and B.P. Helium for direct assistance that led to these recordings being captured.

For the rest of the info, see the information for each individual song.

Thank you for listening.
