This song is a direct response to fake patriots and phony Christians who claim to care about others but don't even have the basic human decency to do the least they could do, which is to wear a mask in public while we're in the middle of a pandemic.
I wrote this song after my wife was made to go back to work (when she was doing just fine from home working through computer) and one person there refused to wear a mask even though everyone else was decent enough to do so.
Between that, Donald Trump's tragic, deadly mismanagement of America, and the lack of real leadership from our Governor Brian Kemp, I felt compelled to write this song confronting them all outright for what they are.
I hit up a few super talented musician friends and they jumped right in and added what they do better than I ever could've if I'd had to do it alone.
In the face of this virus, it's pretty easy.
If you don't do the least that you can do to help others, you're just not a good person. You're an ass. So wear a damn mask.
Everybody sing along!
lyrics
If You Don't Wear A Mask (You're Showing What An Ass You Are)
Well, you know that you can be a racist
And maybe no one will know
And you can be a sexist and homophobe
If you know how to not let it show
Yeah, you can claim to be a Christian
And you can claim to be pro-life
But if you don't wear a mask
We know that you're a fucking liar
Chorus:
Well, if you don't wear a mask
You're showing what an ass you are
Yeah, if you don't wear a mask
You're showing what an ass you are
If you don't care enough about others
To think of the lives you could save
Well, I won't forget to put roses on your grave
Well, I was raised to believe that everyone
Deserves a fighting chance
And I was raised to believe that everyone
Should help everyone they can
But if you think that you're above it
And you refuse to understand
Well, you might be a lot of things
But you're damn sure not a man
Chorus:
Well, if you don't wear a mask
You're showing what an ass you are
Yeah, if you don't wear a mask
You're showing what an ass you are
If you don't care enough about others
To think of the lives you could save
Well, I won't forget to put roses on your grave
You've got to do the right thing
You've got to do the right thing
You've got to do the right thing
You've got to do the right thing
You've got to do the right thing
You've got to do the right thing
You've got to do the right thing
You've got to do the right thing
Chorus:
'Cause if you don't wear a mask
You're showing what an ass you are
Yeah, if you don't wear a mask
You're showing what an ass you are
If you don't care enough about others
To think of the lives you could save
Well, I won't forget to put roses on your grave
No, I won't forget to put roses on your grave
No, I won't forget to put roses on your grave
